About illo skill

illo skill is an open-source Agent Skills-format skill that turns a short idea, a social post, or a full article into original editorial illustrations. Recurring mascot characters perform the idea — one caught scene by default, or a mini-comic, explainer diagram, or transparent cutout when that is the right register.

The skill runs inside the user's coding agent. It is not a hosted image API, a SaaS account, or a web app you log into. This origin publishes a read-only character catalog, OpenAPI, and a catalog-only MCP. There is no render API, OAuth, webhook, or checkout. Rendering is the installed skill.

Trevin Chow makes illo skill and this marketing site. The skill and the community character packs are MIT-licensed. Source lives in two public GitHub repositories: the skill and the character packs. illo-skill.com is the public catalog: install commands, examples, the character gallery, and machine-readable files such as llms.txt, characters.json, and openapi.json. Image generation happens on the user's machine through a signed-in Codex CLI or Grok CLI, Grok Bot's built-in image tool, or an OpenRouter key the user stores locally.
